Today we met President Hinckley! It was so amazing! All my brothers and sisters and in-laws were able to go and both sides of grandparents. We filled the room! We met in the conference room where the First Presidency and the Apostles meet. It was so exciting as President Hinckley entered the room! He sat by my dad and congratulated him on the award. As he spoke I was amazed at how funny he was in real life! Nearly every comment he joked or teased, for example, my dad wore a badge he received when he was awarded with the Gordon B. Hinckley award, President Hinckley pointed at the badge and said, "what are you wearing?" When my dad explained he said "oh my, if I were you I would have accepted the award and tossed the badge!" When my Grandpa, who uses a cane, shook his hand President Hinckley held up his cane and said "whose do you think is better... I'll tell you what you hit me with yours and I'll hit you with mine!" It was so funny. I wasn't sure what to expect when meeting the prophet, I figured he would congratulate my dad and give us advice like he would in a talk or something, but he came out and talked to my parents like you would when you were getting to know someone. He talked about the award, about our family and about my mom graduating from college. It was amazing to hear he and my dad talk as though they were just two men getting to know each other. Being in his presence you could feel that he cared for and loved each person individually. He came out knowing little facts about my dad and our family and it made us feel special that he really took effort to get to know my dad and remember those things about him. This is definitely a day I will never forget! I feel blessed to have been able to meet such an amazing man and for all he does for the church and its' members! It was incredible!
