Hard Water, Hard Times- a short story by Lindsey

Once Upon a time there was a young couple who moved to a new place and bought their first home. Having a home was exciting and there was a lot of fun projects to keep them busy everyday. One day they received a phone call from Sweet Water Filtration offering them an opportunity to learn about the water in the area. The young husband didn't like phone salesmen and quickly told them they weren't interested. The determined water filter company refused to take no for an answer and they continued to call everyday. Some days they thought it was fun to call several times throughout the day. What the young couple didn't know was that the water filter company had evil mind reading powers and knew when the couple would be lying down for a nap, watching their favorite shows or enjoying each others company and that is when they decide to call. Regardless of the couples efforts to stop the phone calls, the water filter company persisted. After months of the madness the young wife couldn't take it and decided to listen to the phone spiel. After all their effort of calling and calling, all they wanted was to send someone over to give a 40 minute demonstration to educate the young couple of the damage caused by the harsh San Antonio water, and as a thank you the young couple would receive a $20 gift card to Home Depot. The evil Water Filter company knew that if they offered Home Depot cards the young wife would be unable to refuse, for she is constantly saving up to work on another home project.
The water filter man came and gave a great demonstration, the young coupled realized that their water was worse than they thought. However not all stories have a happy ending and the young couple didn't have the $8,000 to get a water softener system. The water filter man was not happy and pushed and pushed in efforts to get the couple to get a loan, he also offered free soap for four years claiming that by receiving soap it would make the cost of the water system free. The young husband became annoyed and told the water filter man that wasn't the case, because it doesn't matter how much free soap they receive, soap doesn't put $8000 in their bank account. The rude water filter man gave the young couple a home depot gift card and left in a Huffy!!
The young couple mourned over their wasted Saturday morning, never again would the young wife agree to anything for a $20 gift card. However, deep down she knew that in a few weeks when it came time to paint their guestroom they would be glad for the $20 gift card.

Weeks later in Home Depot the young wife happily pulled out the gift card, as if it were an "I told you so". The young couple swiped the gift card and to their surprise only $10 was deducted from the total. The young couple felt angry and ripped off, for they had been lied to and deceived!
The young couple had considered down the road purchasing a Rain Soft Water Filter, for it seemed like a good product. But after this experience they vow to never give them business for they are Liars.
