Calling All Moms!

Today my mother in law sent me this cute little teddy bear for the nursery and I started getting super excited to buy baby stuff, register, decorate etc. I started looking on line and realized I don't even know what to look for there is so much stuff and I don't want to be over the top. I am looking for every ones opinion on their baby must haves and preferences. I plan to get the bumbo and boppy and jogger stroller/car seat, but cant decide between a glider, a rocker or a recliner- any opinions. Also what is important in a baby monitor, what kind of changing table accessories are practical, what kind of bottles are good, the list goes on and on. Any input would be great! Thanks everyone!

Slow down! Save something for your showers!
But way to be prepared.
Well, here's what i think, but you may find different and i'm sure someone else will tell you different.
First of all, for me i would ditch the monitor. You can hear them crying without it and why do you want to hear it anymore than you have to. But, if you must i'd splurge and go for the one with the monitor so you can actually see what they are up to. I would actually like one now that the babes are older so i can see what they're up to when they are supposed to be napping!
Other must haves...i still say you don't really need a recliner rocker. Just fugure out how to feed the baby while you're lying in bed (nights). But then of course put it right back into his/her OWN bed.
You're list goes on and so we mothers have opinions that go waaay beyond that!
It sure is fun making these baby plans and making lists of all the fun baby things. If I had a million dollars I would get EVERYTHING!
Good luck!

I agree, you don't really need a monitor, I promise you'll hear the baby without one. I have a reclining glider and I love it, even though I had to sit up straight for the first few months while I got used to breastfeeding. the big baby must-have for me was millions upon millions of onsies (aka bodysuits or creepers), but I would wait until after the baby showers before splurging.

agreed - slow down -- wait til after showers to get stuff!!! I HATE the bumbo - think it is a waste! I also woulnd't get a glider - waste, but i LOVE having a recliner in the baby room! i love my monitor - altho video would be better of course (but pretty spendy, but you only need the monitor if the baby is upstairs and you are 2 flights down where you can't hear - otherwise, you will hear them! The glider footstool tho you never need - I LOVE LOVED having a swing, that was a lifesaver sometimes! Register for that for sure - also i got my swing, exersaucer, jumparoo, and walker on craigslist....all brand new, and way less than half the price! so check those listings too........as for carseat/stroller, i love mine, but i would definitely pick something MUCH smaller! they are huge and take up so much room! i really like the bumble ride jogger stroller, or the bob revolution!

It is so fun to start looking at baby stuff, but it is a bit overwhelming! As for a monitor, we really like ours. I know Ethan's room is just across the way, but believe it or not when the air is on and the doors are shut it is hard to hear him. I think it just gives me peice of mind that I will be able to hear him if I need to! We went with a recliner instead of a glider- way more comfortable! I never figured out how to nurse laying down and then if I tried I was always fearful of falling asleep and smothering my baby! Again, it is personal preference and I am kind of paranoid!

Alrighty, I know I promised you a list...it's coming! Check your email. But here's a quickie list of my loves:

1. BOB stroller (can get infant seat attachment so you can just have 1 stroller)
2. Boppy--great to plop in when you can't hold baby
3. Sleep Sheep (LOVE...noise makers are great for bedtime)
4. Dr. Brown's Bottles (great to help w/gas)
5. Mama Bees Belly Butter--with twins no stretch marks:)
6. Rocker--Against other opinions, I love mine. I have an upholstered rocker w/slipcover. I'll send you the link. We use this ALL the time. Babies like motion and walking around is not so fun at 3 am and it's a fun place to read stories/feed. Any chair would work, though.
7. Swing--get a small travel one. We have a big and small one and prefer the small (and cheaper) one anyway.
8. Baby Bjorn or some other type of sling/carrier. I use mine around the house when one of the babes doesn't want to be put down.
9. Aden & Anais blankets--so great! They sell at Target online (cheapest place to buy) and help baby regulate temp--great for hot summer days.
10. Baby manual--I know, this is anal, but I have a "how to" for when people come to help. I'll send you mine as a reference.
I have a video monitor and like it--yes, you can hear them sleep, but it's nice to see what's going on and I do think I'll love it when they're little rascals. Also, one last piece of advice--EVERYONE will have an opinion, so go with your gut and what you think will work best for you. Happy registering! And yes, wait to buy until after your showers.

Agree with the last comment, you will get different opinions from everyone as every baby and mommy are unique. With that said, wait for your showers before you buy anything. When registering,

I have a video monitor and love it except for the fact I got the cheapest one and the volume does not go down very low, so that is annoying, I have to smother it with pillows.
I have a glider and have been happy with it, but I didn't use until Luke went to his own room; however, since he still gets up in the middle of the night, I am glad I have it.
As for the Bumbo, there is such a short time period to use it that it really isn't worth the money. You can have mine so you don't have to worry about that.
I also really liked the swaddle blankets because no matter how good you are at swaddling the babies always either get out of it or it ends up around their face. (which made me nervous with SIDS). The velcro works really well.
Happy shopping!!

I used Avent brand bottles, its nipples is suppose to be similar to a mothers breast, and I also nursed, so that is something I used with both kiddos and plan on continuing to use. A Boppy is a must have, it helped a lot! Swing and a basinet or pack n play so when you are somewhere else in the house, you can keep baby close by. Dr. Smiths diaper rash ointemnt is awesome, its works great for babies, kids and adults, weird I know, but Andrew needs it from time to time, bc of his work, long walks/runs. Congrats on the boy, we too are expecting a boy!
