Brad Paisley sings a funny, flirty little song called Ticks and for the past week I can't seem to get it out of my head!! He sings...
'Cause I'd like to see you out in the moonlight
I'd like to kiss you way back in the sticks
I'd like to walk you through a field of wildflowers
And I'd like to check you for ticks
I don't think he realizes how sick and creepy ticks really are...
When I was younger my friend Anne and I would just sit on our fence and talk. We spent hours on this fence and she would tell me to watch out for ticks, cause they live in wood and we didn't want to get lyme disease. Though I never had seen a tick, I was so afraid of them. What could be worse that a little blood sucking bug with teeth so strong when you try to pull them off their bodies detatch and they keep sucking while they grow a new body. Sounds like the worst bug ever!! Last week I saw my first tick! I saw tons of them!!!
We were on an RV trip with Kev's family on our way to Merced for his Grandpa's 90th birthday party. We stopped at a KOA near Pismo Beach to camp for the night. I was paranoid about waking everyone in the RV when Cooper got up multiple times in the night so they got us a cabin. It was a nice campground with cute little cabins; log porch swings, a log framed bed and log framed bunkbeds, and a room heater which I was excited about because it was really cold. We got settled into our cabin and we were beat. We killed a bug or two before going to bed, hit the lights and got in bed. I was reading a chapter from the scriptures using a flashlight. Halfway through the chapter Kev stopped me and asked to see the flashlight. He had been feeling tickly... He shined the light on the bed frame and ticks were crawling all over the bed post!!! When you shined light on them they scrambled to crawl back into the cracks, but they were EVERYWHERE, all over Kevs pillow, he swept them off his arm and neck, there were a bunch on the sheets, it was horrible!!! To think that had we not decided to read our scriptures we would have konked out, pulled Cooper into our bed in the middle of the night, and woken up covered in ticks!!! It was so gross! So we gathered up Coop and our bags and crowded in the RV. Kev put the sheets and blankets underneath the RV in a storage bin because we couldn't risk using them. We had to check Kev for ticks layer by layer. We all kinda gasped and screamed when we found one on his back, but luckily it hadn't burrowed and neither Coop or I had any. We tried to sleep but I felt so itchy and icky I didn't get much in, oh well, makes for an adventure!! But Brad Paisley should try singing about ponies or puppies because offering to take a girl out so he can check her for ticks is not romantic...

Yuck! That is really sick. I hope you got your money back for the cabin. Glad you didn't get any ticks.
Ewww! I got a tick at girl's camp one year, and I still remember how gross and freaky it was!
And what a great (and immediate!) blessing from reading your scriptures! :D
Ugh! That story totally gave me the chills. And why is it that I remember Anne being particularly preoccupied about ticks in our younger days? By the way, ticks are way more of a problem out here with all the trees than they are back home...
close call! Glad the little guy didn't have time to burrow.
Hey Guys...did you read our California tick blog?
