Last week was a little traumatic for Cooper and me. Tuesday morning as I was going about my to do list I kept thinking I should close our bedroom window. Since our window spring is broken we prop it open with a stick and with Cooper being so mobile I kept thinking I ought to close it. But there was a nice breeze out, and I closed the drapes, and I was in the room with him and he wasn't going near the window. A few hours later I was changing my clothes and getting ready for the day. I ran into the bathroom and about a minute later I heard the sickening slam of the window! I ran out there and pulled back the drapes and saw my little baby's hand crushed in the window. The screaming started as I lifted the window and the indentation mark from the window quickly disappeared as his had swelled into a puffy, bruised fist. I was able to soothe and calm him, but I was a mess. Thankfully my wonderful visiting teacher came and helped me so I could get things together to take him to the doctors. I knew that little baby bones don't easily break, but the force of the slamming window is terrifying and we decided it best to get things checked out.
Nothing was broken but his little hand seemed so sore and he kept trying to crawl or grab things and then he would realize he was still hurt and cry. But Cooper is a tough little guy and the next day started crawling on it and now, though it is still a bit swollen and bruised, he only cries if someone grabs him too hard.
It was so scary and I am committing to be better in child proofing my house. Even though I would never want anything like this to happen again, I am glad it was the back of his hand and not his fingers! And I am really glad it wasn't his head, otherwise it may have swelled like this...

This post made both of us laugh out loud! Not the hand crushing part - that was sad. Good luck child proofing your house!
I'm so sorry for little Cooper! I'm glad I read all of the text, because I was about to close the page thinking that his entire body puffed up in response to his crushed hand.
hmm.. how sad.. hope he is fine and no more bad happen to him.
