Cerrado

I learned two important words today. Cerrado and abierto. Closed and open- in refererence to the canyon. At about noon today our boss told us they were most likely closing the canyon and so we needed to finish and clean up ASAP. Well five minutes later the canyon was closed. We finished what needed to be done because rumor had it around one they were going to open the canyon for twenty minutes to let people down. At about 1:15 Arturo dished us up some beef for lunch, at 1:16 everyone starts saying, Vamos, Vamos... abierto, vamos...! I know vamos so I tossed my beef in the basura and ran to my car. It was a dirty rumor and we were still snowed in! We get back to the kitchen and I had regrets about tossing my lunch, who knew how long we'd be there! We heard that at two they would open the canyon, so we did little things here and there. At two we started towards the car and just before getting out the door we hear that the canyon was still closed- cerrado. They anticipated 3:00 or 3:30, I was just hoping to get home and not have to spend the night. At about 2:45 I was wiping outsides of the flour bins when my boss comes running in and says Go Go Go it's open for fifteen minutes. I have never ran so fast! We got out to our cars and got in line to exit the canyon. It was quite the scene to see all the employees running through the parking lot! I was certain the roads would be fine and they probably were just over reacting. Not the case. There were so many snow slides and a small avalanche. It was a little eerie driving though one plowed lane with walls of snow 3-6 feet tall on both sides. It was quite a day!

I worry about my dear friend and the treacheries of the canyon. Please be careful!
